Grants

Grants are a form of need-based aid reserved for students with the highest financial need and do not have to be paid back. To apply for grants it is in the student’s best interest to submit the FAFSA as early as possible. The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number generated by FAFSA determines eligibility.

Types of Grants

Federal Pell Grant

Federal Pell Grants are federally funded and awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need who have not received their first bachelor's degree. Pell Grant awards range from $488 - $5,350 per year and are available to full or part-time undergraduates. Part-time awards are prorated, based on the number of credit hours.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) are funded by federal and institutional sources and are awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need, with priority being given to students who receive a Federal Pell Grant. Funding is limited.

Tennessee Student Assistance Award

TSAA Grants are funded by the state and are awarded to undergraduates who are Tennessee residents with exceptional financial need. Funds are limited, so students are advised to complete the FAFSA prior to March 1.
